Freelance Production Artist / InDesign Specialist (Contract)

pipikwan pêhtâkwan is seeking a highly experienced, fast and competent Independent Contractor to provide professional Production Artist for layout and production support.

This is a project-based contract role requiring an expert who can work efficiently and autonomously under tight deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.

Skill Set

  • InDesign Mastery: Advanced knowledge of paragraph/character styles, master pages, parent/child layouts, data merge, and pre-flight optimization.

  • Adobe Suite Familiarity: Reviewing final graphic design files for print and digital production to ensure proper document formatting, sizing, bleed and margins, and colour profiles

  • Speed, Accuracy and Competence: Ability to take a creative brief, copy and/or other assets and turn them into clean, production-ready files quickly without sacrificing quality.

  • Independence: Requires minimal supervision, manages time effectively and asks the right questions upfront.

  • Strict Human-Only Execution: Every aspect of the layout, typesetting, and production workflow must be executed traditionally by the designer. The use of generative AI tools (such as Adobe Firefly features, automated AI text/layout generators, or AI-driven content fills) is strictly prohibited for this contract.

  • Excellent Interpersonal Communications: Articulate speaker, concise and accurate writer, solution focused inputs.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Layout and format complex documents (e.g., multi-page reports, brochures, catalogs, or presentations) using Adobe InDesign.

  • Ensure all files are perfectly aligned, consistently styled and structurally sound.

  • Prepare high-quality, print-ready PDFs and packaged InDesign files according to exact printer or digital specifications.

  • Implement client edits and additional directions rapidly and accurately.

  • When required, interface with the client regarding projects.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an independent contractor/freelancer specializing in print production and high-volume InDesign workflows.

  • An exceptional portfolio demonstrating clean grid structures, flawless typography and complex multi-page layouts.

  • Ownership of your own hardware and a current, valid Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.

  • Reliable, fast communication and strict adherence to agreed-upon deadlines.

  • Work may take place in evenings and/or weekends.
